Freeze lava with Snow from the Cryoblaster to make Scoria. Break the Scoria into Cinders, transport the Cinders with the Grabber or solid-pixel logistics, then ignite them where you need lava.
The transport procedure
- Reach the lava layer. Natural lava is found deep underground in the Lava Cave.
- Unlock the Cryoblaster. Tools 3 costs 1,500 Gold according to the official research table.
- Freeze the lava. Apply Snow from the Cryoblaster. Lava converts into Scoria.
- Break the Scoria. Destroy it with a weapon to recover Cinders.
- Move the Cinders. Cinders are solid pixels, so the Grabber, Conveyor Belts, and Launchers can carry them.
- Rebuild the lava pocket. Put the Cinders inside a contained area and ignite them to turn them back into lava.
A compact lava burner
The official wiki suggests setting a Filter to Cinder, placing a solid block below it, filling the pocket with Cinders, and igniting them. A full Filter can hold the lava in place while material moves across the top.
This is useful for automated burning. The wiki specifically calls out Slag and Flower burners. Keep the lava pocket isolated from your main water route because contact with water creates Steam.
Test the chamber at a small scale and keep a backup save. Pixel interactions and high-particle loops can change between builds or create performance problems in dense factories.
Why direct transport is the wrong model
The trick is not to carry lava as a liquid. Convert it into a solid material that your existing logistics can handle. The chain is:
Lava + Snow → Scoria → Cinders + Fire → Lava
Once the lava is converted to Cinders, it follows the same solid-pixel transport logic as other factory materials.
Common questions
Can Conveyor Belts move lava?
Move Cinders on the belts, not raw lava. Ignite them only after they reach the destination.
Does water destroy lava?
The documented interaction is that water landing on lava evaporates into Steam.
Can lava be stored inside a Filter?
Yes. The official wiki documents a Filter-based containment setup filled from Cinders.
